Member of the Month – January

We have so enjoyed honoring a Swinker every month for our Member of the Month.  But to start the new year off with a little change, we are now accepting nominations!  So if there is someone you want recognized, let one of your coaches know and we will think about honoring them the next month!

Now to our January MOMs:

It literally takes a village when it comes to running a gym.  And given Swink’s changes over the past few years, it has taken a lot of extra hands to make sure everything runs smoothly and all Swinkers are getting out of it what they put into it.  This month, we are honoring two of our coaches (who, let’s be honest, sometimes are like the same person) Greg and Trevor, as our January Members of the Month!

These two serve as great examples of hard work, tenacity and dedication.  These guys both make Swink a priority as athletes, ensuring that they put their all in nearly every day, sometimes more than once a day.  And their hard work is pretty obvious…they kill it every day!  Aside from their commitment to their own personal goals, they have both stepped up immensely the past year or so to keep Swink rolling.  Greg is the day-in and day-out coach for the 4:30 Fundamnetals class, plus he subs in for other classes when needed without hesitation.  Trevor got his Crossfit L1 certification last year, and he has gradually been coaching more and more whenever necessary.  These guys are vital pieces of the Swink puzzle, and we are so incredibly grateful for what they mean to the gym.  Thank you two, both, from the bottom of ALL the Swinkers’ hearts for what you do for us.

Now read up a little more on our January MOMS!

What is your favorite thing about Swink?

It’s hard to pick just one thing.  But I would  have to say the atmosphere. Everyone is always positive and encouraging in and outside of the gym.  No matter what kind of day you are having, when you come to Swink and see all of the smiling faces it’s hard to not let that rub off on you.

What’s your favorite movement/workout?

Anything I can beat Greg in! (heavy snatches and cleans or rowing)

What’s your least favorite?

Toes to bar. These toes have a long way to travel to get to that bar!

What’s your favorite clean meal/snack?

Any kind of fruit or I have recently started liking sweet potatoes

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

Almost anything with chocolate in it

What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?

Stay with it and stay positive.  You won’t have a great workout every day and you will have ups and downs, but remember why you started and stick with it and you’ll get ALL THE GAINZ!

What’s your favorite thing about Swink?

The friendships and relationships I have gained. I owe a lot to Swink.  When I really started coming back in 2014 it was just shortly after my dad passed and I had gotten burned out from the every day gym routine. I was really just looking for something different. So I started going to Swink every Monday for awhile, then Mondays turned into to 2 a days and well…the rest is history. I did not expect to gain a family like I did or be accepted like I have been, but at a time when I really needed people, Swink was there.

What’s your favorite movement/workout?

I don’t know if I have just one. I think for me gymnastic movements in general from muscles ups to handstand walking. I’m not great at them but coming from a guy who use to weigh 255 and can now do a ring and bar muscle up and walk on his hands I think those are my favorite. I do love a good lift though!

What’s your least favorite?

Least favorite is pretty simple, sprints and burpees.

What’s your favorite clean meal/snack?

A good steak! Especially a Doug steak! If you don’t know what I’m talking about you need to learn. Meal wise though I love cooking I consider myself pretty decent at it so I would have to go with meal being my homemade chili!

What’s your favorite cheat meal?

This question isn’t fair so I’m just gonna type until I can’t think of things. Panckaes, ice cream, cereal, pie, cake, cookies, candy, French toast, brownies, pizza, burgers, deep fried pretty much anything, cheese cake(not the same as cake or pie,) little debbies all of em! Yeah that should answer that one.

What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?

Stay with it, push yourself. You gotta know it’s not always gonna be easy but it’s worth it in the end. It’ll take some time to learn some movements but don’t get frustrated let it motivate you to work harder and get better. And of course gotta have fun and love it.
