Member of the Month – April
It is so easy to make excuses NOT to come to the gym. Too busy, too tired, too much money, too difficult…the list goes on and on. Todd Ward is living proof that despite all the genuine and reasonable excuses NOT to come to the gym, you are better off for ignoring them all and just getting your butt in the door! Todd has been at Swink for some time, and has been 110% every day since. He has every reason not to show up, what with a big family and busy schedule, but he MAKES time by coming at 5:30 am and giving it all his effort while here. Todd works HARD, and goes hard in the gym with his fellow 5:30 am go-ers, which is, in and of itself, a feat. Before you go making an excuse on why you couldn’t come to the gym that day….think of Todd. And if you still feel that your schedule or life won’t allow for it, think of the great mindset Todd has on life, and then reconsider whether you have the time to come to the gym for an hour to make yourself better, happier, and healthier.
Most important to me, I am a Christ-follower. I am far from perfect and still make mistakes daily. The Lord knows this, forgives me, & loves me anyway. This blows my mind! About 3 years ago I started waking up early to turn each day over to the Lord by spending a few minutes in the Bible and prayer. This changed my life. I have been and joyfully married to a gorgeous wife for 14 years and have 4 beautiful kids. I am in outside sales and the CrossFit mindset keeps me competitive.
What is your favorite thing about Swink? The culture created by the Swink coaches and members is fun to be a part of. I love how the Crossfit mindset of crashing through quiting points carries over into other areas of my life.
What is your favorite movement? Squat Snatch
What’s your least favorite movement?Thrusters
Favorite clean meal/snack? As an outside sales rep I have a pretty active workday. I’m usually walking parking lots and in and out of different offices all day. Stopping to eat is so inconvenient. 🙂 My favorite meal to eat in the office (my car) is Yellowfin Tuna in EVOO right out of the packet with 2 Hawaiian rolls (Hawaiians are “clean” people). I get my fruits & veggies from 2 baby food packets. Last, a bottle of water to hydrate & help digestion. If I’m still hungry I’ll add some Smart Pop. (See attachment)
Favorite cheat meal? Thin crust pepperoni pizza from Pizza Inn in Midlothian…there, I said it!
What advice would you give to someone new to Swink? Become a robot for 1 year. Don’t think about how your “feeling.” Just show up and do what’s on the board. Showing up is 80% of success. After 1 year evaluate where you are and decide if you’re willing to go another year. Keep It Super Simple (KISS).
